Don't be afraid to create a striking headboard with a bold pattern on a fabric that adds warmth, colour and texture to your room such as this statement headboard.

I chose an ikat pattern on velvet as the material has a sumptuous feel. The creative shape, the size and thickness of the upholstery made the headboard a beautiful and practical piece of furniture.

To add more colour and visual interest to the room, I opted for a couple of rugs, each with a different patten and size.

It's ok to mix old and new pieces in a room. The modern feel of the headboard and the rugs complement splendidly the traditional features of the room such as the fireplace, the paintings and furniture. What do you think?
